Jenny McGee Dougherty is a visual artist living and working in Portland, Maine. It is the discarded, displaced and the disappointing elements of her environment that are glorified in her work. She questions values of progression and the impact that it has on an environment or a people. Layers of rust, soot, debris, hand made textiles and family heirlooms all become part of a vocabulary that is used to examine the transient and fleeting nature of everything. Her work inspects man made substances and the way they become consumed by time and natural process. The beauty in vacancy and decay is what becomes revealed in her work.
